October 20th, 2007--Berkeley Biotech has announced it's selection as Gold Level Sponsor for this year's Environmental Mutagen Society Annual Meeting to be held in Atlanta, Georgia from October 20-24th. Titled "Mutational and Epigenetic Mechanisms of Susceptibility and Risks for Genetic Diseases," this will be the 38th annual meeting for the scientific body that has spearheaded efforts to improve understanding of the causes and consequences of genetic mutation. The Atlanta meeting gives students, government officials, industry representatives and researchers from various backgrounds the chance to present and discuss emerging data from the Human Genome Project, learn about new approaches in transgenic toxicology and genomic instability detection, and enage with experts from various areas of the exciting and important field of mutagenesis. The focus this year is on the relationship between genetic susceptibility, physiology and diet and endogenous and environmental mutagens and pharmaceutical agents, with an emphasis on rare diseases and genetic disorders.
Berkeley Biotech is a Bay Area genomics company that is sponsoring this year's EMS meeting as part of its commitment to unlocking the genomic etiology of cancer and other diseases. Berkeley Biotech is currently overseeing the historical Taizhou Human Gene Data Bank project at the Chinese Medical City in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province. The company joins Amgen, Covance Inc., and Merck Research Laborarotiesas Gold Level sponsors for this year's EMS meeting.
